MAN, I Feel Like A Winner! Claire Corrigan and Salim Rahman (centre) with students and staff who created the video
TWO sociology teachers have scooped a massive £60,000 after their quirky revision guide was on-line hit with students.
Claire Corrigan and Salim Rahman from Oldham Sixth Form College won the cash for their imaginative video on sociological theory featuring a Marxist rap and a functionalism hymn.
And it is a double celebration for Salim whose third daughter was born yesterday.
Students starred in the short film which also includes two feminism songs sung to Shania Twain’s “Man I Feel Like A Woman” and Dolly Parton’s “Nine to Five”.
The pair had already bagged £2,000 for themselves and £2,000 for the college after it was the most watched new clip in a month on the 02 Learn website.
They were then named as one of eight finalists in the site’s competition to find teachers’ best — and bizarre — methods of revision.
Claire and Salim came second, scooping £20,000 for themselves and £40,000 for the college.
A delighted Claire said: “This is fantastic news for Oldham Sixth Form College which will be able to do so much with the prize money.
“We intend to use it to buy a multi-screen for the science centre; this will allow our students and children from the area to have the latest up-to-date technology. It is truly amazing!”
Salim told how money would come in handy with the latest addition to his family, who has still to be named.
They also plan to reward the students who helped to create the video and he added: “We are thrilled and we are just really, really proud because we know our students deserve this acknowledgement.”
