Snowdon climb raises £680 for heart charity
Date published: 17 October 2011
A PROJECT designed to help young people avoid the pitfalls of drugs, drink and anti-social behaviour has reached new heights.
Working with young Muslims throughout Oldham, especially in the Coppice, Werneth and Glodwick areas, Oak Community Development helps young people to support other youngsters faced with schoolwork problems and social issues.
As part of Oak’s summer programme, almost 30 young people and 20 mentors climbed Mount Snowdon in aid of the British Heart Foundation. The climb raised £682 and plans are already under way for next year’s challenge to raise money for another local or a national charity.
Project development officer Shaheen Ayoub said: “Many times young people get a bad press, but with the right support and guidance they can reach great heights and become better citizens.”
