Farewell to May, 102
Date published: 19 October 2011
ONE of Oldham’s oldest residents, May Holland, has died aged 102.
One of four children, May was a gifted artist who painted well into her 80s. May was brought up by her aunt and uncle after her mother died in childbirth and her father was killed during the First World War.
May celebrated her last birthday in Park House Residential Home, last December, where she was known for being feisty, positive and outgoing.
She worked in mills around Oldham and married Ernest in 1936. He died 30 years ago. May leaves a son, Kenneth, daughter-in-law Carolyn and grand-daughter Louise. The funeral takes place at Oldham Crematorium, Hollinwood, tomorrow at 11.30am.
