Chronicle Top Tots winners
THEIR cheeky smiles and adorable faces captured the hearts of the borough — and their parents were pleased as punch.
Winners of the Chronicle’s Top Tots competition were all smiles as their families picked up their prizes for being voted the readers’ favourites.
Royton mum Adriana Rizak couldn’t believe the news when she discovered 16-month-old son Rocco Valentino (named after his Italian great uncle) had claimed victory in the 1-3 years age group.
She said: “My dad rang me when he’d bought his Chronicle and told me. We just couldn’t believe it.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever entered something like this, and there were so many others in the category.
“He’s a lovely little lad and we’re really chuffed.”
It was also fantastic news for Allison Grimes, whose seven-month-old daughter Gracie Rhodes has mild Down’s Syndrome.
The heart-warming snap won Gracie the 0-1 years category.
Allison said: “I was so excited, I had a million calls from people telling me.
“That picture just stood out, even when she’s ill she has a smile for everyone.
“She’s very mischievous and the doctors say she is doing everything expected of a seven-month-old so we are thrilled.”
It was second time lucky for the 3-5 year category winner Callum Collinson, whose mum Rebecca Crossley tried to get him in the competition at the age of two.
She said: “He wasn’t really one for strangers then so he wouldn’t have his picture taken. This time he was laughing his head off. It’s a great picture of him and we are over the moon he won.”
It was the perfect timing for the Derker tot, who was four yesterday.
