Explosive performance by Rachel

OLDHAM’S newest singing sensation is on the verge of glory after moving a step closer to achieving her dream.
Rachel Leah Stock romped to victory in the regional finals of the X-Factor-style competition Open Mic UK. Her rendition of Katy Perry’s hit “Firework”, during which she also played piano, impressed the judges so much during the heat that she secured a place in the area finals.
Now she’s just one performance away from the national final, to be staged at the O2 Arena in London.
Rachel (19), who lives in Uppermill, said: “I thought the competition there was so, so high.
“My jaw literally dropped to the floor when I heard my name called.
“I did one of my own original songs but also changed my mind last minute about the cover.
“But it worked and now I’m over the moon. The next round is not until December so it’ll give me time to decide what to sing — and what to wear!”
