David Couch: keeping on running
A CANCER survivor from Saddleworth has fought wind, rain and a heatwave to complete a 268-mile charity run.
David Couch, from Greenfield, ran the equivalent of 10 marathons in as many days and was thrilled to cross the finish line and raise £7,000. The epic challenge was a highpoint for the Greenfield resident, after he was diagnosed with blood cancer Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2002.
The punishing and gruelling task saw David set off from Edale in Derbyshire on the journey for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity.
He then battled the elements, up hill and down dale to complete the run in Kirk Yetholm, Scotland.
He said: “From a heatwave and 80mph winds to horizontal hail and waist deep peat bogs, the Pennine Way threw me some challenging conditions.”
“No amount of training prepared me for this. The run was about fitness, but it was also about the mental challenge to keep going.”
