Slice of life for Evelyn, 101
Date published: 24 October 2011
Evelyn Dawson celebrates her 101st birthday today. The animal-lover was visited by family and friends for a party yesterday and will get another cake today at Avonleigh Gardens Care Home in Watersheddings, where she lives.
Born in Hengoed, Shropshire, Evelyn was one of three children brought up on a small farm. She married Daniel Dawson, working for a doctor and his wife in Hale, and had three children.
Eventually retiring to Oldham in 1970, Evelyn loved nothing better than walking her several pet dogs around the borough’s reservoirs. Evelyn has seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
