FOOTBALL fans will be given a festive treat this year when Manchester United legend Paul Scholes takes part in the Chadderton Christmas lights switch-on.

The former midfielder and international player, now a Manchester United coach, is special guest at the annual event on November 25 and will help the Chadderton crowds get into the Christmas spirit.

The fun starts at Chadderton Shopping Precinct with stalls setting up shop as part of a Christmas Market, from noon to 7pm.

A synthetic ice rink will be available near to the precinct with facilities for children and people with disabilities.

The Christmas lights switch-on will be held at 6.30pm outside Chadderton Town Hall, with a lantern procession led by Town Crier Reg Lord.

Flicking the switch will be Chadderton Prince Max Butterworth and Princess Jade Chadwick, who were crowned in July, and they will be helped by Chaddy the Griffin, the mascot of Chadderton Park FC.

Organisers are planning to end the evening with a spectacular firework display to light up the sky and start Christmas with a bang.

Michael Lawson, of Chadderton Events Committee, said: “It will be a very impressive event.

“Everyone is invited to come along and take part.”
