Hunt for Latics fan in assault on mascot
OLDHAM Athletic are appealing for witnesses after their mascot, Chaddy the Owl, was attacked before Tuesday night’s game at Preston.
The popular figure was posing for a photograph with a young supporter at Deepdale when a male Latics fan punched him in the face. The incident occurred between 7.15pm and 7.30pm.
Athletic chief executive Alan Hardy said: “Chaddy says he was having his picture taken with a young fan when a man appeared and thumped him just above the eye, which dazed him.
“He is quite upset that an Oldham Athletic supporter would take it upon himself to do such a thing.
“I am sure some people who were at the match witnessed it, and if they are able to shed some light on the incident I would urge them to contact the club.
“We have spoken to Preston North End and they are trying to find out if there is any CCTV footage which can help us identify the supporter in question.”
Mr Hardy confirmed the police have been contacted, but if the npower League One clubs can identify the fan, Chaddy may opt to take the matter further.
