Head count rises as search for another Academy chief begins

Date published: 27 October 2011

OASIS Academy Oldham is to get its third principal since it opened in September, 2010.

Applicants have until November 7 to apply for the post which is advertised in the Times Education Supplement.

Interviews will be held on November 24 and 25 with the successful candidate starting in April.

Original principal John Alder stepped down in June for personal reasons.

The 56-year-old was replaced on an interim basis by Sir Iain Hall who was knighted for services to education in 2002.

Sir Iain is an executive adviser of Future Leaders, which aims to raise the attainment of disadvantaged children, and had been working with the academy as a strategic adviser.

The academy, which replaced Kaskenmoor and South Chadderton schools, will move into a new multi-million school for 1,500 pupils in Hollinwood next September.

Waterhead Academy, which opened at the same time and replaced Counthill and Breeze Hill Schools, is already on its third principal.

Jackie Nellis stepped down personal and professional reasons 10 months after her appointment as principal designate — before the school even opened.

David Yates then resigned in August after less than 18 months in the post. He was replaced by Nigel McQuoid.

Oldham Academy North, which replaced Grange School, has been run by principal Colette Burgess since its launch.
