Big day out is a sporting success

MORE than 100 children enjoyed a fun day out thanks to a competition won by Oldham Greenhill Community Sports Club.
The Alexandra Road-based club netted £350 after being chosen as the Oldham winner in System One Travelcards Big Day Out.
It used the money to fund a sports tournament for local youngsters at Greenhill Primary School, offering football, mini cricket, handball and rugby, and providing prizes and refreshments.
The club was among 21 nominees, which were whittled down to two finalists for Oldham, with the winner chosen through a public vote on System One’s Facebook page, OneManchester.
The competition was launched to celebrate the company’s £2.70 Junior Day Saver ticket, which allows unlimited travel for the under-16s.
Abid Hussain, sports co-ordinator at Oldham Greenhill Community Sports Club, said: “We are extremely grateful to System One and all the people who voted for us to win the Big Day Out competition, for making the tournament possible.
“Our young members love sports competitions and this event was no exception.
“The tournament enabled the members to meet friends, keep fit and get out and about in the local area and a fantastic time was had by both the participants, and their friends and families who came along to support them.”
