Your chance to boost charities

LOCAL charities and good causes could get a £100 boost, if they are nominated by members of the public for the early Christmas gift.

Yorkshire Building Society is handing out the cash in its annual “make a difference” week giveaway.

And staff at the organisation’s Market Street, Oldham branch, are poised to accept nominations in the event which starts on Friday (nov 11).

Customers and members of the public will be able to call in and nominate any UK charity of their choice until Saturday, November 19.

Suggestions will be passed onto the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to decide which will get an early festive £100 gift.

Helen Jones, manager of the Oldham branch, said: “This is the perfect chance for people to make a difference to smaller, local charities in Oldham that can often be overlooked for donations.

“We know many charities are struggling at the moment and we want to help as many of them as we can and to do that we need our customers and members of the public to tell us about the charities important to them.

“I hope lots of people will take five minutes to pop into our branch and nominate a charity, no matter how big or small, for a bonus festive boost.”

The Charitable Foundation is largely funded by the society’s “small change big difference” scheme, whereby members donate the pennies earned in interest on savings accounts.

Together they form a big pot of money which is doled out to hundreds of charities and good causes.

Last year 1,300 charities received a £100 donation through “make a difference” week, and the foundation aims to beat that total this Christmas.
