Couple’s holiday from hell

A COUPLE have vowed to take legal action against a tour operator after they were forced to cut short their dream holiday due to gastroenteritis.
Gemma Louise Bromley and her partner of six years James Goode saved hard for a two-week break at the Grand Faros Hotel in Marmaris, Turkey.
But their dream break turned to disaster when Gemma was struck down with food poisoning, had to return to the UK four days early, and was later admitted to the Royal Oldham Hospital.
The trainee teacher, from Coldhurst, said: “I’d just finished university and we wanted to go somewhere to relax.
“The holiday cost just over £1,000 for both of us and everything was OK until the eighth day when I started to get sickness and cramps.
“The health and safety standards at the hotel were not good enough. The restaurant was serving luke-warm food, and it was left uncovered with more food being added to that which was already left out. You don’t expect that in a four-star resort.
“After I fell ill I was forced to stay in our room, which only made things worse as the air conditioning was broken.”
Blockage
Gemma was seen by a doctor at the resort, which cost another £300. He diagnosed her with gastroenteritis before placing Gemma on a drip and providing her with medication.
After travelling home early and visiting her doctor, she was admitted to the Royal Oldham Hospital where a blockage was found in her bowel.
Elizabeth Tetzner, a travel law expert at Irwin Mitchell, said: “We would request that the tour operator work with us quickly to resolve this case amicably on behalf of our clients.”
A spokeswoman for Crawley-based Jewel in the Crown Holidays, Sussex, said they would not comment on the individual case as it was still on-going.
