CREATIVE ceramics will be on display at Gallery Oldham’s latest exhibition.

The showcase for the Northern Potters Association (NPA) will be at the Greaves Street gallery from Saturday until January 8.

Encompassing ceramics in all its forms, including sculptural and decorative objects, jewellery and tableware, the works have been inspired by the Northern landscape, the moors, coastline and geology of the area.

Works inspired by Japanese ceramics and Indian textiles will also be showcased.

There are 25 potters in the show, including Uppermill-based Elizabeth Price, Jim Robison, based in Holmfirth, and Chris Jenkins, from Huddersfield, all demonstrating a wide range of technical expertise.

Dinah Winch, senior curator, said: “We are delighted with the high standard.

“We have never shown so many potters in a single exhibition before so this is a great opportunity to see a wide range of beautiful pots by some of the best makers in the region.”

Gallery Oldham’s fine studio ceramics collection will also be on show.

It includes works by major 20th century potters, including David Leach, Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie, Ian Godfrey and Robin Welch.

Visitors will also get the chance to see interesting pieces by prominent European designers Greta Marks, Wilhelm Kage and Svend Hamershof, which are rarely seen on display.

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, a day of talks and demonstrations takes place on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.

Refreshments will be available, the event is free, and all the works can be bought.
