CCTV clue to dad’s shooting

FOOTAGE of a meeting allegedly staged to arrange the shooting of Oldham dad Amran Khan was screened in court yesterday.

Jurors in the murder trial were shown CCTV clips of a discussion, recorded hours before the father-of-two was killed outside his Glodwick home on September 18, 2009.

The prosecution argues the film shows defendants Damien Green (30) and Craig McKenzie (28) organising the killing with twin brothers and convicted murderers Brett and Jordan Francis.

The film, screened yesterday at Manchester Crown Court, shows the defendants speaking with the twins — who were both convicted of murder in March, 2010.

Prosecutor Paul Reid QC, said several gestures made and dialogue heard reveal the accused giving advice to the twins of how to conceal their identities.

He said the video incriminates them further when they refer to how best use a gun. Both deny murder.

The images were captured by a camera belonging to a neighbour of the Francis brothers, in Birch Avenue, Chadderton.

It was recorded at around 1.40pm on the day Amran Khan would later be hit by two bullets fired from a stolen BMW.

Subtitled phrases such as “Just take it out and hold it” and “get the job done” are attributed to McKenzie, of Parkside Road, Moss Side, during the clips.

“It needs to be done,” is also assigned to McKenzie.

The prosecution said that the four discussed whether it was Ramadan. The court heard how this would have been important as Amran Khan would be likely to be at home in the evening.

In the prosecution’s interpretation of the clips, in which audio was enhanced, Green is shown as saying; “Get him out on the pavement. If he’s there, he’s there, if not get back in the car and drive off.”

The accused can also be seen telling the twins to “hold it” with both hands, and “squeeze it”, before warning of “kick-back”, a discussion the prosecutor said related to the recoil once a gun was fired.

Then Green is said to mutter the single word “bang”.

References are also made to seeing someone in hospital, gaining respect and the geographical area including speed bumps and a car park, which the prosecutor said could correlate to the area of the killing.

In his opening statement, the prosecutor told the court how Mr Khan had been shot dead over a fall out stemming from a heroin drug deal. The court also heard how phone calls and texts made between the twins and defendants intensified in the days leading up to the murder.
