NEWS Editor Mike Attenborough was front-page news as he retired from the Chronicle after 42 years.
Mike has been at the centre of the Chronicle’s newsgathering since coming to Oldham from Urmston in 1969.
A member of the quartet that won the Provincial Journalist of the Year award in 1978 for the Louise Brown test-tube baby exclusive — alongside Peter O’Reilly, Sue Pape and the recently retired Janice Barker, also pictured — Mike was well-known to readers for his weekly motoring reviews.
Mike (64), lives in Shaw and retired in August with a serious heart condition, but he is now on the road to recovery and was well enough to host a farewell evening attended by work colleagues, former Chronicle staff and friends.
