Another arrest in organised crime blitz
Date published: 23 November 2011
A SIXTH man has been arrested as part of a major crackdown on organised crime.
The 24-year-old, from Oldham, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of possession of Class A and B drugs and of breeding a dangerous dog following raids as part of Operation Caminada.
Two pitbull dogs were seized from the address under the Dangerous Dogs Act as well as drugs and cash. The man is being held in custody for questioning.
This follows the arrest of five men in dawn raids on Monday at three addresses in Werneth — two in Worcester Street and one in Cambridge Street — as part of the same operation.
The men, aged 20, two aged 22, 27 and 58, were arrested on suspicion of money-laundering and fraud, and supplying Class A and B drugs. They remain in police custody for questioning.
Operation Caminada was set up to combat organised crime, with a wide variety of organisations, including Oldham Council, working together.
The team investigates all areas of a suspected criminal’s life, including their business interests, benefits and associates to gather information and identify illegal activity.
