Carnival raises £5,000 for local good causes

CARNIVAL fun in Failsworth in July helped raise £5,000 for a range of local organisations.
The weekend event, at Lord Lane playing fields has been able to make donations to over 30 voluntary groups offering activities to over 1,000 people.
Enid Bell, committee treasurer, said: “Despite the rain this year, it was a successful event and we raised slightly more than last year.”
Next year’s carnival will be held two months early on May 19 and 20, to avoid clashing with the Olympics — the first change of date since the event began in 1963.
Fund raising for the event starts on December 10 and 11, with a visit to Failsworth of Father Christmas and a street collection. Volunteers can attend the next committee meeting at Failsworth School, Brierley Avenue, on Tuesday at 7.30pm to find out how they can help.
