Royton’s light delight
Date published: 25 November 2011
FESTIVE cheer was in the air at Royton last night as a bumper crowd packed in to see the Christmas lights switch-on.
Santa Claus took some time off his busy schedule to sit in his grotto in the town hall and hand out presents to the town’s good children, before turning on the lights at 6.30pm. Organisers Royton Lights Association didn’t fail to disappoint, providing a disco and carol singing outside the town hall, as well as mulled wine and refreshments.
Councillor Phil Harrison said it was an excellent night.
“The association has managed to get some funding in place which is great and it pays for some very attractive lights — it’s not like years ago when it started and there were only eight lights. It makes a change from standing on a very cold Royton market collecting cash as we used to do!
