Crew feeling blue over club closure

DEVASTATED dancers are hunting for a new home — despite scooping six awards at their national championships.

The Blue Crew, who regularly perform at Oldham Athletic matches, face being made homeless at the end of December when the Little Cot social club in Chadderton closes.

The Chronicle reported how the club, on Whiteley Street, will close its doors for good next month, leaving the dancers, who rehearse there on Tuesdays and Thursdays and also hold performances and functions at the venue, out in the cold.

The crew started 10 years ago when Latics asked Alison Slater if she could get a team of dancers together to perform on the pitch at Boundary Park. It has grown dramatically from a meagre five members to a group which now boasts 50 children and six coaches.

They won five awards in various age categories — including a first place — at the recent Street Cheer Nationals in Liverpool. The crew also scooped the trophy for the best community contribution.

The Little Cot — formally known as Hollinwood and Chadderton Garden Social Club — has been forced to close because of falling membership.

A planning application has been submitted to replace the building with 11 homes.

Anyone who could offer Blue Crew a new home should contact Alison on 07960-429 105 or Wendy Noble on 07949-107 580.
