Mixed start for Mumps junction

TRAFFIC was moving freely at one stage at the new junction this morning, but there were some delays
THE new road lay-out at Mumps got off to a mixed start during this mornings rush-hour.
A broken down bus at the end of Oldham Way caused delays for drivers heading up Lees Road and Huddersfield Road.
But it eased at around 8am and traffic was moving freely at 8.15am. But by 8.30am there were long delays heading down Huddersfield Road and Lees Road towards the new junction.
Motorists can no longer access the bottom end of Yorkshire Street. Instead, there is a new link road between Oldham Way and Union Street.
This caught out a few drivers who passed the link road and signalled to turn left at the end of Oldham Way, before realising they could not do so.
Other drivers seemed unaware that they could not get out of the town centre by driving straight down Yorkshire Street to Mumps. Several cut through the back streets, with one frustrated driver doing a U-turn and driving the wrong way up Walshaw Place.
