Charity’s action man Frank’s farewell

MARIE Curie Cancer Care have said a fond farewell to a volunteer who helped raised more than £33,000.

Great-grandad, Frank Dobson (68), started volunteering for the charity over seven years ago and founded Oldham Fundraising Group which came together in 2009.

But now he is moving away from the Chadderton area to live nearer his 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

His fund-raising started when he was asked to sponsor a girl who was doing an abseil.

“She said Marie Curie were looking for more people to take part — but it was at the velodrome in Manchester, not down the side of the building, I’m scared of heights!

“But I did it and it was great. I’ve also done a zipwire across Old Trafford, a parachute jump and the three Peaks walk — and loads more.”

Fund-raiser Julie Peters said: “Frank is such a fabulous volunteer, he’s always available to lend a hand from modelling on the catwalk to standing for hours at local supermarket collections.

“We are very grateful to Frank for his support over the past seven years enabling us to continue our work and wish him every happiness for the future in his new home.”
