Date published: 02 December 2011
FESTIVE cheer and Father Christmas be in Saddleworth tomorrow for the Uppermill Christmas lights switch-on.
Residents of all ages are invited to attend the seasonal event in which four sets of Christmas lights throughout the village will turn Uppermill into a winter wonderland. A parade heads off from Uppermill Museum at 4.30pm after the new lights on the Christmas tree are switched on.
The parade heads along High Street to the park where youngsters will sing Christmas carols and switch on another set of lights, before moving on to the Conservative Club for the third light-up of the evening.
The final stop will be in The Square where the main Christmas tree, festooned with lights, will be switched on before a firework display lights up the sky at 5.20pm.
In attendance will be Father Christmas, the chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council, Councillor Bill Cullen and his wife, and Councillor Enid Firth. Mulled wine and mince pies will be available for the crowds. Festivities will run throughout the afternoon with a hog roast and Christmas stalls held in the gardens of the Conservative Club, accompanied by music from Friezland Brass Band.
