OLDHAM College has opened a town centre hair and beauty salon.
Salon 7 in Queen Street gives students the chance to develop their skills in a professional studio — and will offer bespoke training for other businesses on the days it is closed.
Four new jobs have also been created: two qualified hairdressers and two beauty therapists who will oversee the apprentices and work in the salon.
The venture has been developed with the Francesco Group, which owns 31 salons and works with 10 colleges in the UK. It will be used by current students and as a step towards a job for those who have completed their courses.
The Colour Rooms, the existing salon at Oldham College, will continue to operate as normal.
Salon 7 is open on Mondays and Wednesday to Saturday. Project manager Judith Fitton, said: “It will be an asset for Oldham town centre and the community. The college has done extensive research to ensure that the development meets the needs of employers.”
