HEARTFELT donations have been pledged by members of a Facebook tribute page in a bid to bring the killer of great-grandmother Nellie Geraghty to justice.

Supporters of the “Rest In Peace Nellie Geraghty” page have pledged hundreds of pounds to be used as a reward for information which leads to a conviction.

If possible, the group organisers also intend to buy a memorial bench and plaque with the family’s consent.

Lance Kucak, one of the group organisers, said: “This shows even more that people want to do the right thing and help raise awareness of what has happened.”

The 79-year-old was found in an alleyway between Elizabeth Grove and Kershaw Street in Shaw shortly before noon on Thursday, November 24.

Mrs Geraghty’s handbag, which contained the ashes of her husband Frank, had been stolen but part of the strap was still in her hand.

The family want to find Frank’s ashes before her funeral to fulfil Nellie’s wish to be cremated with her husband.

Last Wednesday more than 150 people joined police in a co-ordinated search for the stolen items.

The following day, detectives executed search warrants at two addresses in Shaw and one in Chadderton.

Two boys aged 14 and 17 arrested on suspicion of murder have been bailed until January 9. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161-856 5448 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
