OLDHAM’S £5 million youth centre is due to open in just over two months — and has already been inspiring youngsters into leadership.
Mahdlo — the name chosen by youngsters for the youth zone — has offered free leadership training to local young people. Seventeen people aged 16-21 have so far completed the Young Leaders training programme, which provides a practical working knowledge of communication, leadership and team working skills.
The youth zone is being built on the site of the former Marjorie Lees Health Centre and is due to open in February, 2012.
To celebrate its completion, the training programme culminated in a leadership and team challenge event, which allowed course members to try out their skills with Mahdlo’s development group and fellow leaders from across the region.
Future courses are planned in the New Year. Information by email from laura.windsor@mahdloyz.org or rachelann.brooks@mahdloyz.org to book a place.
