AN Oldham church is planning to sing its way into the record books with festive favourites.
Greenacres Congregational Church is to take part in a carol singing Guinness World Record attempt on December 18.
The Premier Christian Radio initiative hopes to beat the current record for the largest number of people singing carols together across multiple locations. The aim is for more than 15,000 people to join in for 15 minutes of carolling.
The attempt is part of a Christmas Starts with Christ campaign, which hopes to engage people with the true meaning of Christmas.
The Rev Neil Chappell said: “People always enjoy a carol service, with their favourite carols and readings, followed by mince pies and coffee. It occurred to me that people who might not bother coming to an ordinary carol service or who haven’t been to one in recent years might come along if the event was part of a world record attempt.”
Carols on the night will include “Silent Night”, “O Come All Ye Faithful”, “O little Town of Bethlehem” The service begins at the Galland Street church at 6.30pm; everyone is welcome.
