Hospital gets bumper cash donation

A SURPRISE donation has allowed the Royal Oldham Hospital to buy 300 special electric beds to bring more comfort to patients.
The amount, from a legacy, remains undisclosed, as does the donor. Delighted staff say the gift has brought a big boost to hospital wards. An electric “profiling” bed, unlike a standard hydraulic bed, has a sectioned base so the mattress can be positioned in a way that allows the patient to sit up and prevents slipping down the bed. Bed height can be adjusted too, all movement being controlled by a bedside handset.
Judy Harker, a nurse consultant in tissue viability, saw the first of the beds delivered. “We are very grateful for the donation. Electric profiling beds are key to improving clinical effectiveness and safety for patients as they contribute to the reduction of pressure ulcers and prevent falls.”
The hospital already has a several of the beds, but the legacy has meant all wards except maternity now have a full complement.
