Nellie suspect released
Date published: 13 December 2011
A MAN arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of Shaw pensioner Nellie Geraghty has been released on bail.
The 37-year-old man was arrested on Friday. Officers were granted a further 36 hours from Sunday to continue their questioning, but last night bailed him until February 14 as inquiries continue.
Nellie (79) was found unconscious and clinging to a strap of her stolen handbag — which held the ashes of her late husband, Frank — in the alleyway leading from Elizabeth Grove, Shaw, on November 24.
She was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital with serious head injuries and died at midnight the following day.
Despite extensive searches by the police and public, the ashes have still not been recovered.
Two boys, aged 14 and 17 had previously been arrested on suspicion of murder and are on bail until January 9.
