Final farewell for TV’s Roy

THE funeral of Oldham-born Roy Bottomley (78), the creator of some of Britain’s most successful television shows, takes place today.
The writer and producer died in hospital near his home in Richmond, Surrey, on November 28 after a long illness. His funeral takes place at St Andrew’s Church, Richmond.
His many television credits include “This Is Your Life” and “Nearest and Dearest”.
He was brought up in the Ordnance Arms pub in Glodwick and began his career at the Chronicle, before forming Oldham Press Agency with then business partner Tom Brennand.
His TV career began as a news reporter, then producer, of current affairs programme “ABC At Large” in Manchester before working on “The Eamonn Andrews Show” and joining the ITV team at “This Is Your Life”.
Mr Bottomley was married to former Oldham Carnival Queen and highly-rated amateur actress Patti Bottomley (nee Jackson), and leaves two sons and a daughter.
