Family prepares for Nellie funeral

SHAW pensioner Nellie Geraghty will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

The 79-year-old great-grandmother, who was attacked in an alleyway near her home, was found clutching to the strap of her handbag that was stolen during the attack. It contained her husband Frank’s ashes.

A service and committal will be held at Oldham Crematorium from 1pm to celebrate her life.

Family flowers only with any donations made out to the Royal Oldham Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Mrs Geraghty’s death last month prompted an outpouring of emotion from the community of Shaw and surrounding areas. Over 150 impassioned locals took to the streets to trace the black bag she was carrying but nothing has yet been found.
