Gift box for young carers

OLDHAM Young Carers were given something back for all their rewarding work, thanks to the generosity of housing contractor Wates Living Space.
The firm provided much-needed funding to take a group of 14 young carers on a trip to Manchester’s Christmas markets and donated an Xbox games console for their entertainment.
The youngsters, who were finalists in the Pride in Oldham awards earlier this month, spend much of their time putting other people’s needs before their own and Wates was keen to reward them for their responsibilities over the festive period.
Vicky Sowerby, of Oldham Young Carers, said: “On behalf of all the children we support I’d like to thank Wates for their kind gift this Christmas.
“The youngsters have been asking for an Xbox for the centre for some time but unfortunately our budget would not stretch to it.
“It’s wonderful to work with such an inspirational group of people and even better to have their tireless efforts recognised in this way.”
Steve Jackson, regional managing director at Wates, said: “These youngsters show unremitting care in the face of great responsibility and they deserve to be rewarded for that.
“It was our pleasure to be able to give something back to them this Christmas and make a positive impact upon their day-to-day lives.”
