CHEERS: Laura Robinson, 100 today
Oldham-born Laura Robinson celebrated her 100th birthday today with her family.
Laura, whose first job was at Derker Cotton Mill, met her husband James Sidney Robinson while teaching Sunday School in Greenacres.
After her husband died she lived with her daughter, Margaret, before moving into Ashbourne House care home, Lees New Road.
Her fondest memory is of her father’s fish and chip shop on Oldham Edge. Laura said: “I served in the shop, I used to put the peas in the basin and I was always having a nibble on the chips.
“I also loved country dancing in my early teens and I often went to dances with my friends.”
Her first holiday was to Blackpool and she regularly went to St Anne’s with her husband.
She added: “I loved going on holiday to the Isle of Man with my father, who had a sail boat. I have also cruised all over the world. ”
