Man lied about robbery
Date published: 04 January 2012
A man lied that he had been robbed in Oldham.
The 43 year old claimed he had been robbed on Walshaw Street on Thursday, telling police he had been assaulted and his bag containing documents and an ipad 2 stolen. But following an investigation, police determined the robbery hadn’t happened.
The man admitted he had lost his bag and was given with a fixed-penalty notice for wasting police time.
PC Lee Cullen, based at Oldham Police Station, said: “The false reporting of crime is a serious issue.
Time was spent interviewing the victim that could have been used supporting a real victim of crime.”
To report crime, you can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
