Police hunt after man goes missing

Detectives trying to trace a 20-year-old man who went missing in the early hours of January 2, believe a taxi driver may hold vital information.
Gurdeep Hayer, from West Bromwich in the West Midlands, celebrated the New Year in Manchester.
He stayed with friends in Egerton Road, Fallowfield, and went out again on the night of January 1.
He was seen leaving Sankeys, in Radium Street, Manchester, on his own, at 2.15am on January 2.
Officers believe he was picked up by a taxi a few moments later. The cab then returned no more than eight minutes later without Gurdeep.
Gurdeep was wearing a navy blue polo shirt, black or blue jeans and trainers. He is Asian, about 5ft 11in tall, medium build with spiky, black hair and stubble, and has a Midlands accent.
Det Sgt Alan Hamlin said: “Gurdeep’s family are clearly fraught with worry for him as nobody has seen or heard anything from him. They simply want to know he is safe.
“He was seen leaving Sankeys but did not make it back to his friend’s house.
“Now we believe the taxi driver who picked Gurdeep up could have vital information for us. He came back a short time later so he could not have dropped him off very far away from Sankey’s.
“We would urge anyone who may have seen him or spoken to him in Sankeys or anywhere else in the area to contact us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161-856 6152 or 101.
