PAUL Scholes kept fit for his sensational return to the Manchester United fold by plundering goals for Chadderton Park Legends.
In one match he hit the target 12 times in a 16-4 victory over Hopwood Old Boys.
Red Devils veteran Paul (37) raised eyebrows by reversing his decision he made in the summer to quit the sport.
He came on as a substitute in United’s 3-2 FA Cup victory over Manchester City at the weekend.
Lesson
It was earlier this season that six-a-side football action at Saddleworth School came to a standstill as Paul taught everyone a footballing lesson in the Oldham and Saddleworth Veterans’ League clash.
Paul — who played at the club as a youngster and returned last year to officially unveil the new-and-improved changing facilities — scored four times in the first half and eight goals in the second period.
Terry Jennings and Stephen Jones completed the rout for Chadderton Park. The triumph secured third position in the table.
Once word got around that the man French soccer legend Zinedine Zidane once described as his “most formidable opponent” was strutting his stuff, all other matches ground to a halt as admirers scrambled to catch a glimpse of the former England international.
Paul chatted with those who waited patiently after the game, and posed for photographs with youngsters.
A spokesman for Chadderton Park: “Paul kept his fitness levels ticking over by playing a game for us.
World class
“He absolutely ran the show, as you would probably expect from someone world class.
“His opponents could not get near him but everyone just enjoyed the occasion.
“There were several matches in progress but as soon as people realised Paul was in their midst everything stopped.
“He was very friendly and gave everyone his time, which is always refreshing to see from someone so high profile.
“Paul still enjoys coming back for a visit and I am sure we will see him again.”
