Quarry housing back on agenda
Date published: 12 January 2012
A MODERN housing development could once again be on the cards for Springhead Quarry.
An application has been resubmitted to Oldham Council for outline planning permission to build 61 properties at the site with an access road from Cooper Street.
The company, Springhead Stone Company Ltd, had originally unveiled the plans in 2008 and launched a public consultation.
But after more information was required the application was withdrawn.
Changes have since been made to the blueprint for the site that, if granted permission, could boast a variety of three, four and five-bedroom homes.
Planning agent Alan Chorlton, of Chorlton Planning Ltd, said: “We’ve had meetings with officers from the council and the highways department and have made changes to the scheme.
“A new area of open space has been worked into the development, the layout has been changed and the road access has been altered.
“The site is redundant at the moment.
“It’s ideal for development as the steep sides mean it can’t be seen by many people.
“When the housing market starts to improve family homes will be the ones leading the market, and this site is perfectly placed for that.”
The application is expected to appear on the February planning agenda to be discussed by Oldham councillors.
