A MAN has been arrested over the rape of a 75-year-old woman in her own home.
As reported in the Chronicle on Tuesday, the pensioner was attacked in Unsworth Way, Coldhurst, at about 6pm on Saturday. The offender had entered communal flats and pressed the buzzer to her door, claiming he needed to check her flat for work that needed doing.
Despite refusing to let him in, he managed to gain entry and after checking every room he attacked her. The woman reported the attack to a family member the following day and police were called. A 26-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody for questioning.
