Car cover soars in OL code blackspot

Date published: 16 January 2012

OLDHAM is one of the dearest places in the country to get your car insured.

Local motorists have seen their annual premiums soar by 14.8 per cent in the past year — with only Bradford higher.

The majority of postcodes in Oldham — of which insurance companies perform risk assessments based on the postcode’s crime and claim statistics — are under the worst rating — graded “F”.

The latest Confused.com/Towers Watson Car Insurance Price Index discovered eight of the top 10 areas with the biggest increase in premiums since 2010 were located in the north.

According to www.car insuranceexplained.com “your postcode can have quite a substantial effect on your insurance premium even if you are a very safe driver.”

Gareth Kloet, head of car insurance for Confu sed.com said: “In 2012 we can expect to see new factors affecting car insurance premiums such as the introduction of the EU legislation on gender due at the end of this year meaning that insurance cannot be priced according to the sex of the driver.”
