Couple’s big thank-you in memory of their son
Date published: 17 January 2012
AN Oldham couple who lost their baby in tragic circumstances have raised £4,102 in his name.
Darren Mayers and his wife Vicki, of Averon Rise, Moorside, raised the money with a masquerade ball to say thank-you for the care they received after their son, Toby, was stillborn two years ago.
The event, at Smokies Park Hotel, Bardsley, was in aid of the SANDS (Stillborn and Neonatal Death Society) £25,000 appeal to have a room in the new maternity suite at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
The couple have already raised £3,900 in a triathlon, but wanted to organise something for more people.
Vicki, assistant head at Alt Primary School, said: “We wanted to help others going through the same situation.”
The SANDS room will be a self-contained apartment with its own bedroom and bathroom. Partners will be able to stay, so parents can spend more time with their baby.
