Gun terror at chemist
Date published: 18 January 2012
A MAN escaped injury after a gun-wielding robber opened fire in Delph, it has been revealed.
The gunman produced an air rifle at staff at the village’s Co-operative Pharmacy on Monday afternoon after he was refused prescription drugs.
Leaving the shop on King Street, the robber fired two pellets at a man who chased him before fleeing to a house on near-by Grains Road at around 3.35pm.
Specially-trained firearms officers were alerted to the address and a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody.
A number of firearms and a machete were discovered after officers searched the address and surrounded the area.
As reported in the Chronicle yesterday, six homes were evacuated after a number of residents complained of a strong smell of chemicals in the area.
Extra patrols are in place to provide reassurance to the community.
