Victory Apartments: target
Tenants losing battle to keep flats secure
IT was meant to be luxury accommodation in the heart of Oldham, but residents say problems are plaguing the Victory Apartments.
Unemptied bins, insecure doors and fixtures that are falling apart are just some of the problems experienced at the Union Street development, completed in 2008.
Mail-boxes have been ripped open exposing people’s personal mail and strangers are free to get in, night and day.
One resident said: “Anybody can get in the apartment block and they come running about during the day and night.
“The lift to bring rubbish up to street level has been broken for about three months.
“Rubbish just gets to the point where it’s absolutely overflowing, it’s a health hazard.
“We pay a lot of money per flat for maintenance allowance each year. That’s a considerable amount of money but we do not see the results.
“Mail-boxes are left open and I even had a letter containing a cheque stolen.”
Concerns have been raised about the possibility of identity theft, with mail boxes left undone and some torn from the wall and resting in the hallway.
It comes just weeks after Danielle Twittey, manager of the property for Residential Management Group (RGM) was recognised at the national Block Property Management Awards.
One resident was quick to praise the manager, saying she had done a brilliant job at turning the building around, but added that the support she received was not enough to help make a difference as far as the neglected communal areas were concerned.
Residential Management Group (RGM) was unavailable to comment.
