‘Never-to-return’ Chubby is back
CONTROVERSIAL funnyman Roy Chubby Brown is back in the borough — despite vowing never to return to Oldham.
The blue comedian, famed for his foul-mouthed material, will appear at Uppermill Civic Hall on Friday, March 23.
The king of crude (66) stormed off stage during his last appearance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in November, 2010, saying he’d never come back during a rant at the heckling crowd.
Now he’s made a dramatic U-turn in a bid to shock the people of Saddleworth in a venue more used to hosting musical evenings and community meetings.
The Middlesbrough comic, real name Royston Vasey, has a turbulent past in Oldham, having originally been banned from playing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall by the council in 2006. But his agent Stuart Littlewood, managing director of Oldham-based show promoters Handshake Ltd, described Chubby as a “delicate flower” when he stormed off stage in 2010.
He said: “Roy Chubby Brown is king of controversial comedy.
“In the past 30 years he has made over 1,000 appearances and performed in front of 1.5 million fans.
“You never know what will happen next and his shows are guaranteed to be loud, lively and — above all — entertaining.”
He maintained however, that the show is not for the faint-hearted or easily-offended.
A waxwork of Brown, dubbed too rude for TV, will be unveiled at the new Madame Tussauds in Blackpool in the spring.
Tickets for the adults-only show are available on 0844 888 9991.
