Eight held in 6am drug swoops
Date published: 26 January 2012
EIGHT people were arrested in raids across Oldham just after 6am today.
More than 100 police officers swooped on nine addresses in Chadderton, Limeside, St Mary’s and Clarksfield, as well as an address in Blackburn, as part of Operation Rescind IV.
Today’s raids in Oldham saw seven men and one woman arrested on suspicion of drugs offences, including possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
The latest Operation Rescind swoop follows raids on 16 addresses last March, 15 addresses in July and seven addresses in November. To date, 46 have been arrested.
Extra officers from Oldham’s neighbourhood policing teams will be in the areas today and the next few days to provide a visible presence and reassurance to the community.
Supt Catherine Hankinson said: “Today shows that the desire to rid our communities of the blight of drugs is continuous.”
