FORMER Latics favourite Lee Hughes, who was arrested last month on suspicion of sexual assault, has been charged.
The veteran forward (35), now with Notts County, was arrested after police were called to the Meadow Lane club’s team hotel in Croydon, south London, on December 3.
Hughes was taken into custody following the alleged incident involving a woman the night before County’s FA Cup second-round tie at non-league Sutton United.
A statement on the club’s website said: “Notts County can confirm that striker Lee Hughes has been charged in relation to an alleged incident in December, last year. The club will be making no further comment on this matter.”
Hughes was released on bail after his arrest in December. The forward has played for Notts County since leaving Boundary Park in 2009.
