Hunt for killer continues
Date published: 01 February 2012
POLICE are still searching for the killer of a homeless man whose body was found in a derelict warehouse in Mumps last August.
In the latest development in the murder inquiry, the bail of a 38-year-old man arrested before Christmas on suspicion of murdering Matthew Alexander Barrett (38) has been cancelled.
Another man accused of Mr Barrett’s murder had already been released from custody after three months.
The body of Mr Barrett — who was believed to be living rough at the time of his death — was discovered in a building next to Oldham’s Wallshaw Street bus depot, on August 30, last year.
A Home Office post-mortem examination found that he had died from multiple injuries.
The injuries are believed to have been to his chest and head.
A police spokeswoman said: “The bail of a 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the murder of Matthew Barrett has been cancelled.
“Inquiries into Matthew’s murder are ongoing.”
