Police made the drug find in Egerton Street
POLICE discovered a bedroom brimming with cannabis plants during a raid yesterday.
Eight mature plants were found in the second-floor flat in Egerton Street by officers from the Oldham East Neighbourhood Policing Team.
They executed a warrant at the address and discovered the drugs with an estimated street value of £5,000.
Bagged cannabis was also found in the kitchen following reports of a strong smell of the drug in the area. Electric heat lamps and lights were rigged up in the flat.
The mini-farm is the latest find for local officers, who are making it their mission to stamp out local drug-dealing.
PC Graham Turner told the Chronicle: “Our beat is rife for this. As a team we completed 41 warrants last year and 30 were positive for drugs.
“We’re on a mission to beat that this year and find local suppliers so this is a good result for us.
“Such dealing is funding other crimes such as burglary so it’s important we crack down on it.”
Police are now hunting the person responsible.
Anyone with information regarding this case or similar cases in the Oldham East area can call the neighbourhood team on 0161-856-9028 or use the new police non-emergency number 101 to report suspicious behaviour.
