Crews tackle farm blaze
Date published: 20 February 2012
FIRE-FIGHTERS wearing breathing apparatus battled through bellowing smoke in the dark to tackle a raging farmland fire.
Crews from Oldham were called to Norbury Lane, Alt, on Friday after 70 large bales of hay caught fire.
Two crews arrived at the scene at 10.40pm to find the stacked bales surrounded by smoke. The fire had spread to a nearby outbuilding.
Crews worked through the night to extinguish the smouldering hay, and officers returned on Saturday to establish a cause.
