A CARJACKER who left a nurse trapped in her seatbelt while he stole her vehicle has been jailed.

Alcohol-fuelled Brian Bolton (30) threatened his victim as she waited at traffic lights moments after she finished her shift at Royal Oldham Hospital.

Bolton demanded the 59-year-old woman get out of her Suzuki Swift at the junction of Rochdale Road and Broadway in a terrifying ordeal which left her fearing for her life, a court heard.

She became caught in her seatbelt as she landed on the wet road, with Bolton revving the accelerator from the driver’s seat.

The victim became free and grabbed one of Bolton’s trainers before he drove off — prompting a police chase which ended with him crashing the vehicle just inches from his ex-girlfriend’s front door.

Bolton, who earlier in the night had been involved in a feud with his former partner, had no driving licence, insurance and was driving while over the drink limit.

Bolton, of Cardigan Road, Oldham, drove at up to 70mph, at times on the wrong side of the road and collided with a stationery vehicle, while being pursued by police.

Prosecuting, Nicola Wells, told Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, that the nurse has been left “traumatised “ by the incident, which occurred around 9.30pm on October 17, last year.

Mrs Wells said: “After the defendant drove off in the vehicle the victim noticed a car behind who did not help and drove off, but fortunately two people later did stop, one of which she knew.

“She had minor grazing to her right elbow, pain to her head, shoulder, hip and leg and she wishes to say the incident has really affected and changed her.”

When police discovered Bolton in the vehicle — ploughed into a wall on a grass verge in Eden Way, Shaw — he refused to co-operate.

He was tazered twice in order to be arrested, the court heard.

Officers noticed he required medical treatment after a bar had lodged in his hand during the crash — but was later refused treatment at Royal Oldham Hospital due to his behaviour.

It was removed at the police station.

Defending, Richard Vardon, said Bolton wanted to write a letter to his victim to apologise — but “couldn’t find the words” to do so.

Mr Vardon said: “He is outraged by his behaviour and remorseful.”

Bolton was jailed yesterday to two years for robbery, 12 months for dangerous driving and three months for driving with excess alcohol — sentences which will run concurrently.

He who also disqualified from driving for three years.
