Briton jailed for cocaine offences
Date published: 23 February 2012
FIVE Britons, including a man from Oldham, are in jail in Spain after police busted a gang smuggling cocaine to the UK in hidden vehicle compartments.
All were arrested after officers south of Alicante seized 3.1 kilos of cocaine worth more than £130,000, hidden in the petrol tank of a lorry.
Other vehicles with what were described as “sophisticated” hidden compartments were also found, said police. Oldham’s Christopher Laycock and the other men were ordered to prison after a closed-door appearance before a judge.
